Mission

Our Mission Statement

T.L.C. Home creates a loving home-like environment for our residents through life experiences which enhance their well-being, allowing them to live their fullest lives.

Tender Loving Care

The name not only stands for "tender loving care", it is also an acronym taken from the names of three very special children.  The need for such a home arose when several parents of handicapped children recognized the lack of services in the area.  The t.l.c. home, inc. was founded in 1987 for children and has evolved today into a home for adults.

The t.l.c. home is a dynamic residential treatment facility for adults, each of whom has an intellectual disability, additional handicapping disorders and are non-ambulatory

A community program, led by the Board of Directors, t.l.c. home provides a home-like facility and a developmental program, a marriage that is a tribute to the wisdom and compassion of all involved.

Greater still, it is a triumph for the residents whose needs are met here. The staff and the board, with the help of the Sanford community, continue to work on ways to improve the lives of our residents.

Dedicated in 1987, t.l.c. home was established through the efforts of three Sanford families to make available a residence for children requiring specialized services. A place where ten very special residents call home, t.l.c. has evolved into a dynamic Intermediate Care Facility for non-ambulatory adults diagnosed with severe or profound intellectual developmental disabilities with additional handicapping conditions.

A specially-trained staff provides ongoing programs exclusively designed for each resident as well as daily care on a 24-hour a day, 7-day a week basis. Amenities provide inclusive community living in a home-like atmosphere focused on helping each resident to learn, live and grow to their fullest potential.

Originally designed for children, space became limited as the home evolved to serve adults. In 2021, an addition was completed to provide an individual bedroom for each resident. The original part of the structure has been renovated to provide space for resident activities as well as for clinicians who provide specialized health care. In addition to basic needs of food, bathing and shelter, individual programs are designed to stimulate senses as well as teach basic motor skills and increase cognitive awareness.
